Detox Challenge

Goals: To remove toxins from the body, to clear skin, improve hydration and reduce the appearance of cellulite.

Toxins in food, air, water, and the environment, make cleansing the colon, liver and other organs more important now than ever. Keep in mind that accelerating the removal of toxins from your body won’t help if you continue to put toxins into your body. Try to avoid any processed foods. In other words, basically, stick to clean eating and be mindful of what you out on your skin.

DRY BRUSHING

ss_dry_brush-e1389626245989

One third of your body’s toxins are excreted through the skin and dry brushing helps to unclog pores and excrete toxins that become trapped in the skin. Brushing can diminishes the appearance of cellulite by improving the circulation in your skin and the the layer of fat below your skin. Circulation plumps the skin to give it a smoother look while minimizing lumps and bumps.

Lymphatic Support: The lymphatic system is a major part of the body’s immune system. It is made up of organs and lymph nodes, ducts and vessels that transport lymph throughout the body. Many of these lymph vessels run just below the skin and proponents of dry brushing claim that brushing the skin regularly helps stimulate the normal lymph flow within the body and help the body detoxify itself naturally.

Cellulite Help: Though the evidence is anecdotal, I’ve found many accounts of people who claimed that regular dry brushing greatly helped their cellulite. I talked about this and my other cellulite remedies here. There isn’t much research to back the cellulite claims, but dry brushing feels great and makes skin softer, so there isn’t really any downside to trying it!

acv-elixir-300x200

Many people drink apple cider for it’s weight loss benefits. Just adding/subtracting single foods or ingredients rarely has a noticeable effect on weight. It’s the entire diet/lifestyle that counts. You need to combine several effective methods to see results.

8 ounce glass of water

2 Tbsp. Bragg – Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother(the good stuff)

1 tsp. ground cinnamon

2 Tbsp. lemon juice or ½ lemon

1 pinch cayenne pepper (if you please)

2 Tbsp. honey (raw honey if possible)

A slice of apple (optional)

Mix together add ice and apple slice and enjoy

Let’s Break Down The Benefits of These Ingredients…

Apple Cider Vinegar

Given that vinegar lowers blood sugar and insulin levels, it makes sense that it could help you lose weight. Several human studies suggest that vinegar can increase satiety, help you eat fewer calories and even lead to actual pounds lost on the scale.

Studies suggest that vinegar can increase feelings of fullness and help people eat fewer calories, which can lead to weight loss. View the study for yourself: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19661687

Lemon Juice

Improved Skin – A study published in the American Society for Clinical Nutrition concluded that people who consumed more vitamin C have less risk of wrinkled and dry skin. http://ajcn.nutrition.org/content/86/4/1225.long

Reduce Weight Gain- A study published in the Journal of Clinical Biochemistry and Nutrition showed that polyphenol antioxidants found in lemons significantly reduced weight gain caused by a high-fat diet in mice. In addition, insulin resistance was improved.

While the same results need to be proven in humans, anecdotal evidence is strong that lemon water supports weight loss. Whether this is due to an increase in water intake and fullness or the lemons remains to be seen. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2581754/

Aids in digestion – Ayurvedic medicine believes the sour lemon taste helps stimulate your “agni.” In Ayurveda, a strong agni jump-starts the digestive system, allowing you to digest food easily and helping prevent the buildup of toxins.

Honey

Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper restores the circulatory system by opening the capillaries and regulating blood sugar; it also helps the digestive system that moves bacteria and toxins out of the body.

Scientists at the Laval University in Quebec found that participants who took cayenne pepper for breakfast were found to have less appetite, leading to less caloric intake throughout the day. Cayenne is also a great metabolic booster and aids the body in burning excess fat.

Cayenne is a known circulatory stimulant. It increases the pulse of our lymphatic and digestive rhythms. By heating the body, the natural process of detoxification is streamlined. Cayenne also induces sweating—another important process of detoxification. Combined with lemon juice and honey, cayenne tea is an excellent morning beverage for total body detox. http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/benefits-of-cayenne-pepper/
